About the Us

What is the church of Christ?

The church of Christ is simply the church you read about when you open up your New Testament (Matthew. 16:18-19; Acts 2:47; Romans 16:16). We are not a denomination (1 Corinthians 1:10-13).

We are New Testament Christians who believe the Bible is God’s inspired Word. We believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ which says that Jesus Christ, God’s Only Son, died for our sins on the cross, that He was buried, and that He was raised back to life on the third day. We believe we must maintain this faith and be obedient to God’s Word in order to go to Heaven (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Matthew 7:21).

Who founded the church of Christ?

Jesus Christ is the Founder of  the church (Matthew 16:13-18). Jesus purchased the church with His own blood (Acts 20:28). He is the Head of the church (Ephesians 1:22-23); And, He is coming back to receive the church to glory (1 Corinthians 15:24 and 1 Thessalonians 4: 16-18). The church of Christ was not started by Thomas Campbell, Alexander Campbell, Barton Stone, or any other man.

When was the church of Christ founded?

Most modern denominations were founded within the last 500 years. Many people assume the church of Christ was founded during this time, as well. The fact is, the church was founded by Jesus Christ and grew tremendously in the first century…on the Day of Pentecost in Jerusalem, as described in Acts 2, to be exact.

In Acts 2:47, when the Gospel was preached by the Apostles for the very first time, thousands of men and women who heard it, believed it, and obeyed God by being baptized (Acts 2:38). From that day on, the Lord has been adding to His church daily those who are being saved (Acts 2:47). This same church exists today, and the Lord is still adding souls to it.

Where is the headquarters of the church of Christ?

Most man-made religious groups have a local headquarters that runs that group. For example, the Catholic denomination’s headquarters are located in Rome. People think the church of Christ must also have a local headquarters. We do not. Since Jesus Christ is the Head of the church (Colossians 1:18 and Ephesians 1: 22-23), and is reigning in Heaven at the right hand of the throne of the Father (Hebrews 1:1-4), that is also where our headquarters is. We have no earthly headquarters.

How does one join the church of Christ?

When one hears the Gospel (the good news about the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ), believes it, repents of sins, and is baptized, he is “added” to the Lord’s church by the Lord, Himself (Acts 2: 40-47); and he remains a member of the Lord’s church as long as he remains obedient to God’s Word and the Gospel of Christ.
